The scenic surroundings and mild weather are conducive to both indoor and outdoor activities, making it a popular sporting destination for young and old, the adventurer and the outdoor enthusiast.
Stellenbosch University boasts a first of its kind Sport Science Department in South Africa, with modern facilities including an outdoor and indoor pool, squash courts and a modern gymnasium. Research focuses include biokinetics, sport performance enhancement, movement literacy, health and fitness industry, sport history and sport for persons with disabilities.
The Stellenbosch Academy of Sport is a professional sports training and preparation environment that offers world-class outdoor and indoor training facilities, including on-site premium accommodation. 
Facilities and services on-site include indoor and outdoor training fields, a state-of-the-art gym, access to leading sports scientists, doctors, coaches, physiotherapists and biokineticists, cutting-edge conference facilities, comfortable athlete accommodation and performance-nutrition catering.

For the golf enthusiast there are three championship 18-hole golf courses in Stellenbosch, including Devonvale. Six more golf courses are within 30 minutes drive of the town.

Nature-lovers are spoilt for choice as horse trails and cycle trails meander through fynbos, mountains and vineyards. Where else but in a unique town like Stellenbosch, can you combine sport with epicurean delights, by embarking on a wine-tasting tour – on horseback!

For the sports fanatic, many bars, restaurants and wine farms screen major sports matches. A great way to get into the South African spirit is with a beer, a bowl of biltong and a rugby match on screen at a local bar.

Hiking through the Jonker’s Hoek Nature Reserve is both beautiful and exciting with different experiences round-round, depending on the season. Winter will offer tumbling waterfalls and bubbling streams, while summer will offer hot sunny days and dry heat.
