Stellenbosch dates back to 1679 and is the second-oldest wine producing region in South Africa.
Stellenbosch Wine Route was founded in 1971 and is the oldest wine route in the country. Now known as the Stellenbosch American Express® Wine Routes, it is divided into five sub-routes and represents more than 200 wine and grape producers within the boundaries of the Stellenbosch Wine of Origin classification; a name that has become synonymous with quality and diversity and a plethora of international awards.
Daily wine-tasting, cellar tours and sales are available at most cellars. Many have restaurant and picnic facilities as well as accommodation, gift shops, art galleries, amphitheatres, carriage rides and wildlife experiences, to name a few available attractions and activities.
Literary art meets wine legends when the Stellenbosch American Express® Wine Routes teams up with the Stellenbosch University Woordfees (Festival of the Word) annually, for a Word-and-Wine Celebration.
We have been preparing for your visit for more than 330 years! Let us introduce you to the finest wines, warmest hospitality and most memorable moments.
The Greek philosopher Plato is quoted as saying: 'Nothing more excellent or valuable than wine has even been granted by the gods to man'.
