A HANDFUL OF PIONEERS TAKE STELLENBOSCH FORWARD
Stellenbosch Publicity & Marketing (SPM), the entity responsible for administering the Stellenbosch Tourism Levy, succeeded in making almost R 700 000 available to Stellenbosch 360 for its marketing projects during the past financial year.
This amount is four times more than that of the Stellenbosch Municipality’s annual marketing contribution to 360. From a modest beginning with only four founder supporters, SPM grew to 32 members who all decided to obtain their levy contribution from their guests and to pay it over to SPM.
According to Riel Meynhardt, founder of SPM, this has been the key element in enabling 360 to market Stellenbosch as a top national and international tourist destination.
Appeal to tourism roleplayers
He continues: “I trust that in the year to come more loyal tourism roleplayers in Stellenbosch will join SPM to enable us to generate enough funds for a strong, dynamic and multilevel marketing campaign promoting our exceptional town and all its offerings to holiday, business and other travellers. Implementation of the tourism levy requires little effort, yet it makes an enormous difference to the scope of the marketing we can afford.”
