Highlights of Chairman's Report at 2016 Stellenbosch 360 AGM

STRONG MOMENTUM AT STELLENBOSCH 360

The AGM of Stellenbosch 360 – the official local tourism organisation – was held at Spier Wine Estate on the 1st of September. Professor Andreas van Wyk, Chairman of the organisation, indicated that the growth pains of the first five years were now a part of history and a bright future awaits.

Global tourism role-player                                                                                                      

He emphasised: “I believe that our organisation has established itself as an important and recognised role-player in tourism at all levels – in our town, province, country and globally. We can now focus full-time on promoting the interests and potential of all the people and communities of our town Stellenbosch and surrounds through dedicated and strategic marketing, tourism and partnerships.” 

An unqualified audit report, for a third consecutive year, is proof of a strong organisation with optimal functioning and solid financial processes and systems.

Local support                                                                                                                  

Prof Van Wyk made special mention of all the support and partnerships – financial and otherwise – received by Stellenbosch 360 from other important local role-players such as the Stellenbosch Municipality, the University, the Cape Winelands District Municipality, various community and service organisations, expert volunteers and the business sector.

He indicated that: “Our initiative at Stellenbosch 360 to establish a formal network for interaction between the town’s business organisations and the Municipality is, to our delight, now being taken over by Mayor Gesie Van Deventer, but we will continue to be closely involved in this.”

The joint marketing venture with Stellenbosch Wine Routes – the Stellenbosch Experience - was praised for its international success. He also specified that without the voluntary tourism levies in Stellenbosch hotels and guest- houses by the Stellenbosch Publicity & Marketing (SPM) association, very little marketing would be effected for Stellenbosch, both nationally and internationally.
