JAMESTOWN COMMUNITY TO MAKE ‘MAGIC’ WITH FIRST STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL
The Jamestown community of Stellenbosch will host its first two-day Strawberry Festival on 30th and 31st October to celebrate their rich agriculture heritage dating back many decades. The festival is an initiative of the local Weber’s Tourism Network in co-operation with members of the Jamestown community.
Stellenbosch 360 will support the steering committee together with the public and private sector. The stimulation of the local economy through the promotion of agricultural tourism on the surrounding wine and strawberry farms will also be promoted.
The ‘magic’ of Jamestown’s people Chanene van As, Chairperson of the Weber’s Tourism Network, says that the Strawberry Festival will hopefully be the first of many to follow. “We believe that Jamestown with its diverse, interesting and truly multi-cultural South African community has so much to offer to visitors from the rest of our country and also abroad. We call that the ‘jewels and joys’ of Jamestown. Our intention is to present this undiscovered ‘magic’ of our people and our beautiful area to the outside world … contributing to Stellenbosch as one of the world’s best tourist destinations.”
Festive events programme Various events are planned. They include an exhibition of the many local artists, a book launch of Jamestown’s heritage, strawberry-related culinary and crafts stalls, a Mr & Ms Strawberry Beauty Pageant, a 5 km fun run, live entertainment and a Thanksgiving church service.
