Taste of Helderberg Wine Show
Sample the fruits of one of Stellenbosch’s must lauded sub-regions and rub shoulders with some of the area’s most respected winemakers at the Taste of Helderberg wine show at the NH Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West on Thursday, 6 June 2013. An opportunity for wine lovers to taste over 100 wines and indulge in a hearty selection of fine fare from a number of winery restaurants, the one-night only fundi extravaganza - it’s grown exponentially since its 2009 inception - certainly looks to be one for the books.
Those keen to fill their bellies as well as wet their whistle will be elated to know that the kitchens of seven fine dining restaurants from the region will also be present and accounted for. Each eatery’s head chef is set to whip up lip-smacking tasting portions of their signature dishes. Look out for Avontuur’s Salmon Roses stuffed with Prawns, Wasabi Mayo and Pickled Ginger or sample 96 Winery Road’s famous Duck and Cherry Pie or Creamy Cauliflower Soup. Not to mention, Somerbosch Bistro promises to tantalise taste buds with a scrumptious Camembert, Sweet Onion, Bacon and Sage Quiche. Vegetarians don’t fret, Ghenwa’s Lebanese Cooking Club has you covered with moreish gluten-free treats and vegan dishes.
Not to mention, olives from Morgenster and Yonder Hill as well as Waterkloof’s naturally matured Healey’s Cheddar (it was crowned as South Africa’s Best Round Cheddar at the prestigious 2013 South African Dairy Championships) are just some of the other delicacies patrons can nibble on.
Quite simply, as Annareth Bolton, CEO of Stellenbosch American Express ® Wine Routes, sums up “Even if it is grey and grim out there, Taste of the Helderberg 2013 guarantees you a heart warming experience indoors, enjoyed with like-minded food and wine lovers who all treasure the finer indulgences in life.”
